# Credibility & Finding Clients

> Build enough trust to start conversations, win a paid diagnostic and create a repeatable pipeline without pretending to be a large consultancy.

Credibility is not the same as fame. A prospective client needs enough evidence to believe that you understand their problem, can run a professional engagement and will not waste their time.

## Build a practical proof stack

Aim to combine several of these:

* relevant domain or functional experience;
* a clear diagnostic methodology;
* examples of the problems you understand;
* case studies or anonymised examples;
* useful content that demonstrates judgment;
* testimonials or references;
* partnerships and certifications where genuinely relevant;
* product-backed credibility through a structured evidence method such as Iris.

You do not need all of them before selling. You need enough proof for the specific buyer and risk level.

## The credibility test

A buyer should be able to answer:

1. Why does this consultant understand organisations like ours?
2. How will they diagnose the problem rather than guess?
3. What evidence do they have that they can deliver professionally?
4. What exactly would we buy first?

## Find clients through multiple channels

Do not depend on a single acquisition channel. Build a mix of:

* warm network;
* referrals;
* partnerships;
* LinkedIn and useful content;
* targeted outbound;
* events, communities and webinars.

Early-stage consultants often over-invest in content while avoiding direct conversations. Content can support credibility, but conversations create pipeline.

## Where Iris helps

Iris can strengthen your methodology story: you are not simply interviewing a few people and returning with opinions. You can describe an evidence-led process for understanding workflows and validating opportunities.

<Warning>
  Do not imply that software alone makes the engagement rigorous. Your scope, stakeholder selection, validation and judgment determine the quality of the diagnosis.
