# Client Communication

> Communicate progress, evidence gaps, risk, delay and decisions in a way that increases confidence rather than creating surprises.

Clients rarely expect every project to be frictionless. They do expect the consultant to communicate clearly and early.

## Weekly update structure

**Status:** green / amber / red with one-sentence explanation.

**Completed this week:** material progress only.

**Next:** what happens before the next update.

**Decisions needed:** who must decide what and by when.

**Risks / blockers:** issue, consequence and proposed response.

## Communicate evidence gaps early

Weak:

> We are slightly delayed but should be fine.

Better:

> Two of the frontline interviews are still incomplete, so we do not yet have enough evidence to validate the exception-handling part of the workflow. If they complete by Wednesday, we can keep Friday's validation session; otherwise I recommend moving it to Monday.

## Chase participation professionally

> We still need the two stakeholder interviews agreed at kickoff. Without those perspectives, the current process view will be weighted too heavily toward management. If they cannot participate, please help us nominate replacements from the same roles.

Connect the request to the consequence rather than sending repeated reminders with no context.

## Ask for decisions explicitly

> Decision required by Thursday: confirm the additional operations stakeholder, or accept that this area will be labelled as a lower-confidence finding in the final report.

## Principle

No material surprise should first appear in the final presentation. Important risks, disagreements and evidence gaps should already be visible to the relevant client owner.
