# Engagement Configuration

> Configure an engagement around the diagnostic question rather than attempting to maximise the amount of evidence collected.

Configuration should make the engagement focused and repeatable.

## Configure for the question

Ask what information is actually needed to answer the client decision. A narrow process may require a handful of representative stakeholders; a broader cross-functional diagnostic may require more coverage and structured data.

## Evidence-source decisions

### Interviews

Use when decisions, exceptions, workarounds and employee context matter.

### Screen observation

Use selectively when granular task behaviour is important and the participant can provide informed consent.

### Structured data

Use when volumes, timings, variants or event sequences are important to the analysis.

## Avoid over-collection

More evidence is not automatically better. Additional sources create participant effort, data-handling responsibility and analysis work.

## Record important assumptions

Keep a short list of:

* process boundaries;
* excluded teams;
* missing evidence;
* known data-quality issues;
* stakeholder gaps.

These should follow the engagement into validation and reporting.
