Before launch
Confirm:- the participant is relevant to the scope;
- the engagement context is accurate;
- the participant understands the purpose;
- consent and confidentiality messaging is appropriate;
- there is enough time before synthesis to follow up on gaps.
What good evidence looks like
Useful answers contain concrete details about:- triggers;
- sequence;
- systems;
- decisions;
- exceptions;
- handoffs;
- workarounds;
- delays;
- frequency and impact.
Avoid over-probing
A good interviewer explores an important issue, but does not spend the whole session chasing one niche topic. After one or two meaningful probes, move on if the participant cannot add useful detail.After completion
Review:- whether the process was covered end to end;
- whether important exceptions were captured;
- where statements are vague;
- contradictions with other stakeholders;
- missing roles that require additional coverage.
